THROUGH THE EYES OF A SEAGULL

Through movement, storytelling, and performative expression, Ada J. Einmo, together with other dancers and artists, offered the audience an insight into a long and multifaceted artistic practice. The presentation moved between the personal and the artistic, between lived experience, performing arts practice, and reflection.

There is a widespread and beautiful maritime belief in coastal folklore that seagulls—especially common gulls and great black-backed gulls—are the incarnations of the souls of sailors lost at sea, watching over their loved ones and the ocean. This legend has deep roots in Nordic folklore.

Among several Indigenous peoples of North America, the gull also appears as a totem and spirit animal—a messenger believed to have the ability to communicate across different spiritual worlds.
