Summer at Fargespill 2024
A choreographed dance with young war refugees from Ukraine, Congo, Rwanda, and South Sudan explored Sámi culture. Eva Lumin provided the yoik, supported by a global choir. The Norwegian Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra and Bodø Rhythm Group performed the music, with lyrics translated into South Sámi.
I was engaged by the organization Fargespill to do a choreography from my Reindeer concept to be performed from 12-14 September 2024 in Bodø
I had the pleasure of working through 4 long workshops + stage rehearsals with these wonderful young people from Ukraine, Congo, Rwanda, and South Sudan. (all war-refugees) They were introduced to our Sámi culture and our music. The reindeer is our strong symbol and a powerful animal in our culture. We all need the reindeer power and through the dance, we worked together to present our own inner power-reindeer. In advance, we also workshopped decorating the antlers in our own personal spirit.
To do the yoik accompanying the dance we had with us Eva Lumin and a choir of young people from all over the world. Music was played by Norwegian Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra and Bodø Rhythm Group. Composer: Kjell-Joar Pettersen Øverleir, Lyrics Stig Bang, translated to South-Sami language by Eli Kappfjell. Choreography: Ada J Einmo.
Our group represented themselves and the municipalities Vefsn and Rana in North-Norway.
(…) Fargespill creates performances that provide a close and musical encounter with young people’s stories, told through music and dance from their upbringing and life.
Together, we work towards a goal that tells of a way forward for a more diverse society. (…)
